La Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá (EAAB), en operativos conjuntos con la Policía y las alcaldías locales, recuperó 4.995 millones de pesos por concepto de agua no registrada. Durante el mes de agosto, la EAAB realizó 696 inspecciones en 20 localidades de Bogotá y en el municipio de Soacha, donde detectaron 676.753 metros cúbicos de agua que no había sido facturada. La cantidad de agua recuperada podría abastecer a más de 61.000 familias de estrato 3 por un mes, lo que demuestra la magnitud del problema.
La EAAB logró recuperar 94.234 metros cúbicos de agua que obtenían a través de conexiones clandestinas. El valor de esta agua asciende a más de 586 millones de pesos. Estas conexiones son una forma premeditada de evadir la medición de consumos, lo que no solo afecta las finanzas de la empresa, sino que también pone en riesgo la calidad del servicio para los ciudadanos. Las localidades de Engativá (15%), Kennedy (9.5%) y Bosa (8.6%) fueron las que más contribuyeron a la detección de estos fraudes.

Además de los operativos, la EAAB radicó 39 denuncias ante la Fiscalía por el delito de defraudación de fluidos, que corresponden a 241.086 metros cúbicos de agua avaluados en 2.186 millones de pesos. La lucha contra el robo de agua es un tema fundamental para la EAAB, ya que este crimen genera pérdidas económicas y afecta el suministro para todos.
En un operativo adicional, la EAAB dio un duro golpe al robo de agua en carrotanque en la localidad de San Cristóbal. Las autoridades encontraron un parqueadero que tenía una conexión clandestina y vendía el agua a través de carrotanques. El establecimiento se apropió de 4.238 metros cúbicos de agua, avaluados en más de 46 millones de pesos. La Policía capturó al dueño del establecimiento. El robo de agua en carrotanque afecta la presión y el normal funcionamiento del servicio en la zona, y a menudo se asocia con el crimen organizado.
