La Policía Nacional, a través de la Dirección de Antinarcóticos, realizó un operativo en el municipio de Barbacoas que permitió desmantelar un megalaboratorio dedicado al procesamiento de clorhidrato de cocaína. La acción se desarrolló como parte de la estrategia Esmeralda Plus – operación Espejo, enfocada en combatir el narcotráfico en zonas cercanas a la frontera con Ecuador.
Durante el procedimiento, las autoridades lograron incautar 1.317 kilogramos de cocaína, además de 4.255 galones de insumos líquidos y 1.900 kilogramos de insumos sólidos utilizados para la producción del narcótico. Según la Policía, esta infraestructura ilegal tenía una capacidad de producción de hasta tres toneladas de cocaína al mes, lo que la convertía en un punto clave dentro de las cadenas de producción y tráfico de droga en el suroccidente del país.
El presidente Gustavo Petro destacó el operativo a través de sus redes sociales y señaló que este tipo de acciones reflejan la cooperación y experiencia de la Policía colombiana, incluso en el apoyo que se brinda desde hace años a las autoridades de Ecuador en la lucha contra el narcotráfico.
De acuerdo con las investigaciones, la droga producida en este laboratorio era transportada hacia la frontera con Ecuador y desde allí enviada a mercados internacionales, principalmente en Centroamérica y Norteamérica, utilizando rutas empleadas por organizaciones dedicadas al tráfico internacional de estupefacientes.
Las autoridades también señalaron que este operativo representó un fuerte golpe a las finanzas de las estructuras criminales, ya que se calcula una afectación económica superior a 5.000 millones de pesos. Además, se evitó que más de tres millones de dosis de cocaína llegaran a los mercados ilegales.
Finalmente, la Policía explicó que estas operaciones forman parte de una estrategia permanente para debilitar las redes de narcotráfico que operan en corredores fronterizos, especialmente en regiones como Nariño, que por su ubicación geográfica suele ser utilizada por organizaciones criminales para el procesamiento y envío de drogas hacia otros países.
